Groupon. Living Social. Wagjag. Late 2010 brought the trend of group-buy websites. The concept: a group of people buy into a great local deal. They all looked great, but none of them seemed very relevant to ME.
Along comes Surrey.com. And the first few deals were amazing! I bought the second deal that came out of the gate, $10 Starbucks gift card for $5? I’m in! A quick and painless sign-up, and my card came in the mail a few days later. I was starting to think though, Wal-Mart, Starbucks…how local is this site, really?
Not to worry — right away the deals became uber-local, and more importantly, relevant! Deep discounts at local Survivor boot camps, half-priced gift cards for both swank beachside restaurants and local cheap eateries, and great deals at local salons.
In need of a haircut, I picked up the Glow Salon & Spa deal for $39. I figured that was a good $20 cheaper than a cut would cost anyway, and it came with a deep scalp massage and a paraffin wax hand treatment. My hands are so dry they stick to my Lulus these days, so what a bonus!
The deals have been great and while not every one floats my boat, there has been great opportunity to try local businesses at a deep discount. While other deal sites have on occasion piqued my interest, Surrey.com has consistently delivered local deals that suit my interests.
